Don White

We honor the life of Don White, longtime L.A. activist for peace and justice and loved by many around the world for the passion, commitment, and spirit he brought to his work over many decades.

We remember Don and celebrate his life by remembering this work. We invite you to explore materials from our collections on many of the causes Don cared so deeply about, including materials on the Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador (CISPES), struggles against the House Un-American Activities Committee, teachers' unions, the National Lawyers Guild, and more.

A memorial service is planned for August 10, 6 p.m., at the Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 3300 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles.

Yetta Sosin

We are deeply saddened by the loss of another longtime L.A. activist, Yetta Sosin. Yetta was at the center of a precedent-setting First Amendment case, Stromberg vs. California, for flying a red flag over a summer camp for working class people. Her 1931 case was the one of the U.S. Supreme Court's first victories for free speech--and laid important groundwork for the protection for protest and dissent. She was also a bright, discerning spirit and a committed supporter of the Library.
